Go ahead and get your workout on with these hairstyles that will protect your curls in the meantime. These looks feature claw clips and coily bands (that won’t damage your curls) so you can quickly refresh and restyle your hair for the rest of the day.
7 Workout Hairstyles for Curly Hair
Claw Clip Twist Up
Curly Bun
Wrapped curly bun
Claw Clip Messy Bun
High Ballet Bun
Low Ballet Bun
Clip Up Ponytail
Take these hairstyles to gym, dance studio, outdoors and more. Whether you’re doing yoga, spinning, aerobics, or running, these styles can hold up your curls without any damage. Most of these are also mat and floor routine ready with the addition of a soft stretchy headband or hair buff to protect your edges.
01. Claw Clip Twist Up
Accessories Needed: 1 large claw clip
Begin by gathering your hair in a low ponytail and twist twice. Next, lift that twisted ponytail upward to clip into place with a large claw clip. If you have long hair, fold your ends down to secure in the claw clip as well.

02. Curly Bun
Accessories Needed: 1 coily ponytail holder
Start this look by gathering your hair into a high ponytail. Loop a coily ponytail holder around once. As you twist the ponytail holder and bring your hair through for a second time, stop mid-way. Not pulling you hair all the way through will create a curly bun with the ends of your hair out as decorative fringe.
03. Wrapped Bun
Accessories Needed: 1 coily ponytail holder + 1 tiny claw clip
As a modification to the curly bun above, move the fringe you created to the front of the bun instead. Next, split the fringe in half and wrap them around your ponytail holder on either side. Secure the fringe at the underside of your ponytail holder with a tiny claw clip.

04. Claw Clip Messy Bun
Accessories Needed: 1 coily ponytail holder + medium claw clip
I love this look for a high-impact workout hairstyle. Begin by creating the curly bun above, with the fringe down at the back. Next, using a medium-sized claw, clip the curly bun in the center with the clip. Yep! It sounds unusual, but it’s a soft and protective way to hold up your curls securely during your morning run.
05. The High Ballet Bun
Accessories Needed: 1 coily ponytail holder + 3 mini claw clips
Begin this look with a high ponytail and secure it with a coily ponytail holder. Loosely twist the full length of your ponytail and wrap it around your ponytail holder. Rather than using a scrunchie to hold the bun in place, (because we all know that won’t stay in place for very long), use at least 3 tiny claw clips to secure the side of your bun. You can also use a hair buff to protect the edges of your hair during floor exercises too.
06. The Low Ballet Bun
Accessories Needed: 1 coily ponytail holder + 3 mini claw clips
This elegant look uses the same techniques as the High Ballet Bun, but just in a low ponytail position. Keep your edges loose with this one so that you can easily restyle your hair after your workout. Instead, use a hair buff or soft stretchy headband to cover and protect your edges as needed.

07. The High Ponytail
Accessories Needed: 1 coily ponytail holder + 1 mini or medium size claw clip
I love this look for an easy weekend style too. Begin by using a coily ponytail holder to secure a ponytail at the crown of your head. I loop the ponytail holder only twice to keep it loose and prevent denting the hair. To prevent sagging however, place a tiny or medium size claw clip at the base of your ponytail holder. This little anchor will help that soft pony stay up throughout your workout.
Enjoy!
