Let’s level up those basic cozy winter hairstyles for the new year! The styling secrets lie in our hidden hair accessories, the ones that actually hold our hair. Still, it’s the decorative accessories that catch our eye and add our signature style to every look.
Here are 5 Favorite Winter Hairstyles with styling upgrades to level up your look this season.

.01 The Pretty Ponytail
Why do our ponytails always look best right before we loop on the ponytail holder? If only we would keep that perfect position, that perfect fullness all around.
The names we use: ponytail holder = hair band = hair elastic
But, once we put in that ponytail holder or scrunchie, our ponies just end up sagging and bringing all our hopes down with it. So, how can we actually make our ponytails stay in place?
There is a secret tip from hairstylists all over the world. It is called the hair bungee, made with one thin ponytail holder and two bobby pins hooked into it.

Of course, when we are styling our own hair at home, we all have different abilities and mirror positions to work with. Still, we can easily master this style on our own. First, begin by holding your ponytail up with one hand, as you normally would before looping a ponytail holder around it.
Here, however, you will just poke one of the bobby pins into the middle of your gathered ponytail. Then, wrap the rest of the bungee all the way around your gathered ponytail, until you can poke the second bobby pin just past the first one.

The trick is for that second bobby pin to poke through one strand of the ponytail holder. Thus, securing this contraption into place. It’s simple, but very effective. It makes your ‘Pretty Ponytail’ better than ever.

.02 Low Ponytail
You can definitely try this hair bungee technique with a low ponytail as well. Still, if you prefer the basic ponytail holder route, there is one accessory that is far better than all the rest. It’s a super thick ponytail holder that won’t get tangled or lost in your hair. Instead, it’s strong and soft all at the same time.
Say goodbye to sagging ponytails. And, as it’s a thick hair elastic, you can choose a color pop of your choice or conceal them with a hair accessory. Here, I’m donning these new cashmere scrunchies that I love for sweater weather season.

.03 High Ponytail
Still, a high ponytail at the crown of your head, is always a bit of show stopper. With a bouquet of curls, it’s a sight to see. I definitely use a ponytail holder for this one, as its just easier to use in this position. The cashmere tail scrunchie is cute for this look as well with the added statement of color and texture.

.04 High Curly Bun
How about a high curly bun? Begin as if you were creating a high ponytail, but on your last loop of the ponytail holder, don’t pull your ends all the way through. Instead, leave out some curls to decorate your curly bun. This can also be decorated with a fun tail scrunchie to add a pop of color or pattern to accentuate your outfit.
The tail of the scrunchie can be at the front/top of the bun. Or, it can be placed at the back/below the bun making a cute bow tie look.

.05 Headwrap
Lastly, we can’t talk about winter hairstyles without a mention of the simple headwrap, or a full headband that wraps all around your head. It’s a ski slope favorite for its ear warming benefit, but it’s also cute and chic for any winter day.
Especially with elegant velvet, this look is easily leveled up with new accessories. Additionally, the pop of color brightens a winter wardrobe that can often be stuck in neutrals.
I hope you have fun with these looks too!
