One of my favorite effortlessly chic hairstyles is the low ponytail. With so many ways to customize this look, I love the voluminous, textured low ponytail that celebrates all the curly hair’s waves and bends.
This looks works especially well if your hair is opposed to slicked-down ponytails like mine. The baby hairs and flyaways just want to be free and it’s a battle that I’ve surrendered to.

The Prep: Begin with curls that have been styled and dried.
First, pull some face-framing pieces forward to add softness to the look.
Then, gather the rest of your hair at the nape of your neck. For a great shape to your pony, tuck your chin down to your chest to position the ponytail as low as possible. Use a ponytail holder to secure your pony as close to the neck as possible. Tug apart both sides of your ponytail to tighten it upwards.
Here are my favorite ponytail holders that don’t pull or snag your hair. They are thick and strong for the comfiest ponytails possible.
Once your ponytail is secure, loosen your hair at the crown by gently tugging your hair slightly up from the ponytail. I like to do this in little sections from one side of my head to the other.
Another tip is to use a sectioning comb to lift your hair up at the roots. This keeps your ponytail secure but adds lift and volume to the crown to celebrate your hair texture.
Play with Accessories! I love changing up the look with different accessories to fit the occasion. Whether it’s oversized scrunchie, volume barrette, or just a hair wrapped ponytail, you’ll find ways to make this look your own.
Ponytail Cuff Hairstyle
When using a ponytail cuff, use it as a decorative accessory over a regular ponytail holder. This way, you can control how tight the ponytail is first and let the accessory just be the star of the look.
Finishing Touches

Or, you can spray the hairspray on your fingertips and use it to smooth out particular curls as needed to set your textured low ponytail with more definition.
