The fashion world may have been more focused on protecting designer clothing from makeup with this tip, but it’s a well-loved winter hair hack too.

The not-so-secret rule is that models have been required to bring a silky scarf to place over their face and hair before pulling over their designer dresses and tops. The scarf then prevents any makeup from rubbing off onto the clothes. At the same time, the hair is also protected from any friction, which is just what a curl wants.

The Silky Scarf

When shopping, look for scarves made of silk, satin, or silky polyester. The smooth texture of these fabrics will protect your hair from any snagging or friction. Avoid cotton or wool scarves that can stick to the hair or make it difficult to pull over your clothing.
