When it comes to summer hair styling for my curls, I reach for humidity-proof products regardless of the weather. Even in a hot dry climate, I don’t want to have to hide from the misters on every patio in town.
I find I’m so much happier with weather-proof hair! Over the years, my product experimentation resulted in 2 dependable product combos that I can always count on for a frizz-free summer. Through summer downpours, muggy weather, and beachy breezes, these product combos have passed the tests.
My hair: Loose, wavy curls with medium density and medium strand thickness
Frizz-Free Summer Hair Products
Why do I have 2 favorite combos? I share options to help you discover products at your favorite retailers and to meet your fragrance and finish preferences. There are definitely more products on the market that I’d still love to try, but these have been my go-to staples for years.
Here’s what I’m loving now for high-definition (strong hold) and soft-definition (medium hold) finishes.
Mostly, it’s glycerin-free products that perform best in humid climates (and in those misting zones). Both of these combos are also silicone-free for healthy curls and curly girl method followers. Each product is also budget-friendly at under $10.
Strong Hold Products (High Definition Results)
Giovanni Styling Gel + Mousse/Foam + Leave-In Conditioner

This strong hold gel is best for ultra definition that lasts for days. If you love keeping the volume to a minimum, this may be your favorite summer product. I add just a pea-sized amount the optional leave-in conditioner to help my hair hold more moisture.
Note that is a thick gel! To avoid gel clumps, I emulsify the product my hands before applying. This makes for an easier application and even distribution. You can easily achieve a gel cast with this one too! It will soften each day, or you can scrunch out the crunch on day one for a softer look right away.
Adding the top layer of mousse adds more hold and weather protection from heat, humidity, and wind too!
Medium Hold Products (Soft Curl Definition)
Curl talk Sculpting Gel + Mousse

This light to medium hold gel is great for fine hair or medium hair. It’s easy to apply and can be used alone too. I don’t love the fragrance, but it fades quickly once it dries
The hold is too light for my heavy hair which is why I love to pair it with the mousse. It adds extra hold while still keeping my hair light and bouncy.
I was definitely amazed and grateful when my curls were still frizz-free after a 2-hour dinner on a covered patio during a rainstorm! Adding the top layer of mousse also adds more weather protection from heat, humidity, and wind.
