Claw clips are amazing for comfort and style, though they can sometimes benefit from a little assistance. If you’ve had trouble with slipping claw clips or getting the right placement on your half-up hairstyles, here is the trick to mastering the look!
You’ll Need:
Medium or Large Claw Clip + Thin ponytail holder + Styling clip

01. Determine your preferred claw clip placement. Depending on the size of your claw clip, your half-up hairstyle placement can be in line with your forehead or eye level. The placement will change the shaping and volume of your curls as the back.
You can also try a tiny claw clip half -up hairstyle like I did here!

02. Half-Up or Faux Half-Up – A half-up hairstyle just means that your hair is gathered at about the midpoint of your head. Still, you don’t actually have to gather the full top half of your hair.
For a lighter-weight solution, only gather the sides of your hair and bring them to meet at the back. I love this not only for comfort but to better balance the volume of my curls.

03. The hidden ponytail holder. Gather your hair with a small hair elastic or thin ponytail holder that matches your hair color. Using a styling clip to keep the rest of your hair down helps to prevent snags and tangles too!
If you have fine hair, a clear elastic band will do the trick. For thicker hair like mine, a thin, small ponytail holder works great.

04. Finishing Touches. Using the ponytail holder under your claw clip allows you to position your hair exactly where you’d like and adjust the tightness. Add hair spray now to style any bangs, face framing curls, or set any flyaways. Finally, add a claw clip to complete the look!
