Mornings have a knack for being busy and having a quick hairstyle is a little luxury we can be thankful for. So, how about a hairstyle that will leave your hair looking completely put together in two-minutes? Yes, please! These two easy hair clip updos are up to the challenge. They have slightly different personalities, so it’s great to have both in your toolbox. The only trouble is that you might start collecting hair clips for the amazing little wonders that they are.

The Hair Clip Updos
Both of these looks feature a hair clip, more specially a volume barrette. The volume barrettes are perfect for curls as they have a rounded shape to allow more space for the shape and texture of your curls. If you have very thick hair there is also an extra-volume barrette with about 30% more space. The barrettes featured here were gifted to me by France Luxe and I’ve curated my favorites from the brand on my Amazon shop as well.

.01 The Clip-Up Hairstyle
This is a classic look with French twist vibes. Funny enough, my curl pattern also tends to make it look like a croissant shape bun from one side.

I love this look for work days and travel days too. The best benefit is the protection of curls for future days of styling. As my hair is loosely tucked in the twist, only my edges are exposed to the elements of the day. This makes for an easy refresh and restyle later.
The Tutorial
Begin with curly styled hair that is completely dry. Your hair in this condition will best preserve your curl pattern while in the updo.
Next, gather your hair into a low ponytail with just your hands. While holding the ponytail with one hand, use your other hand to give your ponytail a full twist.
Then, tilt your twisted ponytail up to form the twist, and twist one more time in the same direction.
Finally, secure the ends of your hair with a barrette at or just below the crown of your head.
If you hair is long, the ends of your hair may be quite loose at the top. So, to style this a bit more, use the hook and tuck technique to pin those curls in place with a few bobby pins. You can also add a bobby pin vertically into your bun to give it a little extra holding power.
Finally, finish the look with some hairspray, if you prefer.
.02 The Clip-Down Hairstyle
This clip down hairstyle is bit a more casual. With the curl fringe at the back, it’s playful with volume and movement. Still, just changing up the style of the hair clip can take this look from business casual to romantic and boho chic.

The Tutorial
Begin with curly styled hair that is completely dry. Your hair in this condition will best preserve your curl pattern while in the updo. Also note that this hairstyle looks best with a slimmer profile barrette to give your curl fringe more space to play.
Next, gather your hair into a high ponytail with just your hands. While holding the ponytail with one hand, use your other hand to give your ponytail a full twist.
Then, turn your twisted ponytail up and around to form a half of a donut bun. Finally, secure the ends of your hair with a barrette just below the bun. After you’ve clipped the barrette, feel free to tug on the bun to open it up a bit.
Finally, finish the look with some hairspray, if you prefer.
Work Appropriate
These looks are perfect to take to work with chic barrettes that compliment your style. If you are concerned about the barrette clashing with your outfit, opt for neutrals, a match to your hair color, or a basic metal tone to compliment your jewelry. You’ll be surprised on how many options there are to reflect your personal style.
