It’s time to reveal my favorite curly styling products of the season! With this winter being mostly dry, my curls have needed some extra help staying hydrated throughout the week.
Additionally, I’ve opted for high-definition styling to keep my curls defined and intact during lots of outdoor sporting activities with the kids, windy weather, and unfortunately sick days at home too.
Cream + Gel + Hairspray
As I was going for extra moisture and definition, I decided on a cream + gel + hairspray combo. I chose products from my cabinet that I liked, even though they are from different product lines. Since they work well for their individual tasks, I wanted to try them all together for this season’s perfect combo.
My hair type: Medium density, thick hair strands, loose curls
The Curl Cream

I began by using the Treluxe Curl Supreme for my base layer of styling. This a heavy, whipped curl cream that’s super smooth and adds a lot of definition to my curls.
To apply the cream, I use about a quarter-sized amount for all of my hair. I like to apply half of that amount to the bottom half of my hair. Next, I emulsify the rest of cream to rake it through the top half of my hair as well.
If you have fine hair strands, try using only a pea-sized amount for all of your hair. To more easily spread out that small amount, be sure to emulsify with some water. For details on emulsifying your products, check out this post as well. If you find that the cream weighs down your hair down too much, you may opt for a lighter leave-in conditioner or serum instead.
Note: This product has a strong fragrance that does fade after drying.
The Gel
Bioterra Alcohol-Free Gel – This is my favorite budget priced gel! It adds so much shine and great hold that you’ll be receiving compliments all day long. It’s perfect for beginner styling, as it’s easy to use and never flakes. This gel also works well over any cream, so it’s an easy choice to seal in the added hydration when necessary. Even with a cream underneath, the gel creates a good gel cast once dry. It does soften on its own after a day, but you can also scrunch out the crunch on day one, to create soft and shiny, defined curls right away.
Prepare to get lots of compliments on how shiny your hair looks with this gel!
The Hairspray
Jessicurl Aquavescent Hair Spray – This hair spray is a great curl-friendly option that adds hold without drying out your hair. I use this hair spray as my last styling product, just before I dry my hair. Yes! I apply this on wet hair. A major benefit from doing this, is to prevent frizz from forming during the diffusing process. Check out the results below from my Day 3 hair, before refreshing or styling! My curls are all still defined and intact with only minor flyaways that can easily be tamed with some hairspray after styling.

The Curl Diary
Enjoy the process of getting to know your hair. For me, it’s been a fun challenge to take notes on how my hair responds to different products. Trying only one product on wash day will help you to learn how your hair responds to it. Sure, product testing might lead to into a week of updos, but it’s helpful nonetheless. You’ll soon find out what actually works on your hair, how you prefer your hair to look, and ultimately, how to achieve the results you want, every time.
Enjoy your curls, Beautiful!
