With busy days and variable weather, Spring calls for easy breezy curls. I’ve been loving this simple 2-styler combo for quick styling and curls that last for days.

The Base Layer
All winter I used a leave-in conditioner or cream as a base layer. Though on fine to medium-thick hair like mine, leave-ins and curl creams can weigh down the curls when used under a gel. So with temperatures warming up, I like to skip the base layer for lighter curls and a more simplified styling routine.
The Holding Product
To achieve lighter and bouncier curls, I’m using Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk gel. It provides medium hold with humidity protection for those occasional rainy days.

This gel is great for beginners too! It’s easy to apply (not too thick, not too thin) and to find online or at most drugstores.

To apply, start with freshly washed and conditioned hair. Then, section your hair to apply the gel section by section for even distribution. Add a small dab of gel on the palm of your hand and emulsify with wet hands before smoothing over each section of hair. For super smooth results, use a styling brush too!
The Finishing Product
The simplest finishing product or topper, is a flexible hairspray. It’s quick to apply and layers beautifully over a gel for all those finishing touches. The final results are defined curls that are light, soft, and last for days!
This season’s favorite is the DevaCurl Flexible Hold Hairspray No-Crunch Finishing Styler that I picked up at a TJ Maxx haul. It provides an extra layer of weather protection for happy curls that last for days. I recommend spraying it all over your curls just before diffusing. This helps to prevent frizz and speed up the drying time too.
On dry hair, it works well to tuck in frizz or flyaways, set an updo, or keep those face-framing curls from separating during the day.
