Spring and Summer are prime seasons for easy updos like this faux French Braid. It’s a quick go-to for pool days, ball games, and all your outdoor adventures.
Best of all, this is a simple braid that you can master. It just looks like a French braid but without all the pulling and tangles. Let’s get started!
Simple Prep
This look begins with separating a deep v-section of your hair. In this video, I started with a v-section at the top of my head and then added a bit more to the bottom of the V. This will make the perfect chunky braid. I then pinned this section up and away for now. Next, secure the bottom section at the nape of your neck with your favorite ponytail holder. I’m using teleties here to add some fun seasonal color. We’ll add the braid to this it later.
The Chunky Braid
With the bottom half of your hair out of the way, let’s start the braid! We’ll take the full top section of hair and separate it into three equal sections. For a simple braid, you’ll bring one side and cross it over the center section. Readjust your hand as needed and cross over the opposite section over the center section. Repeat until your braid reaches just past the nape of your neck.

The Faux French Braid
Add the chunky braid to the bottom half of your hair with the same ponytail holder. Then starting at the top of the braid, pull each section of the braid out to the side to to loosen and widen it. Move from one side to the other, working your way down to the bottom of the braid.
Finishing Touches
If you have any frizz or wispy flyaways that you’d like to tame, use a hairspray to spray and rake those hairs into the hairstyle. No brushes needed!
