As the temperatures rise, I’ve found a clever way to keep my curly hair routine from contributing to the summer heat: reducing my diffusing time. It’s all about achieving those perfectly set curls without feeling like you’re in a sauna.

My Summer Hair Drying Routine
My approach to easy summer hair drying is streamlined for efficiency and comfort. This method allows me to achieve a great hair day without the full commitment to heat styling, making it perfect for those hot summer days.
Post-Shower Styling: After cleansing and conditioning, I immediately style my hair while it’s still wet, right out of the shower. This is crucial for defining curls and distributing products evenly.
Targeted Diffusing: I then diffuse for about 10 minutes, just long enough for a gel cast to form or until the top layer of my hair feels dry to the touch. My focus here is on the roots and face-framing pieces. Drying these areas first helps to set my curls and styling products, preventing frizz and ensuring my hair looks as polished as possible with minimal heat exposure.

Air Dry with Lift: To complete the drying process, I use root clips to lift my hair at the scalp. This promotes root volume and allows my curls to air dry fully while maintaining their shape.
Overnight Clip Trick: Even if I’m doing this routine at night (which is my favorite), I’ll sleep with the root clips in! Since they’re positioned at the top of my head, they’re surprisingly comfortable and undetectable, ensuring my roots stay lifted for the morning.
