Let’s ease the curly hair morning routine with these simple refresh tips. Because, after you have freshly washed and styled your curls, you will still have to sleep on that beautiful hair eventually…
So, what’s the solution to revive your curls the next morning? Here are 5 tips to wake up those happy curls again.
5 Tips for your Curly Morning Routine
Even if you’ve protected your curls overnight, your curls may need a little TLC to look their best. Still, it’s best to let your hair settle out of your night bonnet before beginning any refresh routine. You might even be surprised on how little your curls need after that!
Pro Tip: After removing your hair from a night bonnet, let your curls settle for at least 15 minutes before refreshing.
.01 Scrunch Out the Crunch
If you use gel to style your curls, it may leave your hair with a glossy stiffness.. That’s your gel cast and it helps to give definition to your curls. This gel cast softens up on its own over time, or you can soften it as part of your styling routine. This technique is referred to SOTC or Scrunch Out the Crunch.
If you’ve never done this before, this is absolute curly magic! The best way to do this without causing much frizz, is to use a silky or satin scarf. With the scarf laid over your hands, scrunch your hair with the scarf. This will break the gel cast and soften your curls with an amazing finish.

.02 Lift the Roots
A well known, though often forgotten technique, is to fluff out your roots with your fingers or with a hair pick. Starting at the root, lift only the first inch or two of your roots. This will help loosen the curl definition at the roots to create more volume. It also helps to conceal unintended part lines and cowlicks too.
.03 Loosen Up Your Curls
Go ahead, flip your hair from side to side or give it a little shake. This will help your hair to settle out from however you slept on it. Additionally, you can gently pull apart larger curl clumps to create more evenly shaped curls with added volume.
.04 Smooth Out the Frizz
If you are reviving your curls on day two, you might only need some water to refresh your curls. The water will reactivate the styling products and smooth out any frizz that was created overnight.
Pro Tip: Don’t spray water all over your hair to refresh it, as that can create unnecessary frizz all around. Instead, just touch up individual curls and smooth them out with wet hands.
.05 Add Styling Products
If afterall, you feel you need to add more product, try adding a small amount of your wash day product on wet hands. Emulsify the product in your palms and then glaze it over your curls. I also love using a flexible hold hairspray to keep the curls in place throughout the day.
I hope theses simple tips will help you too.
Cheers to another beautiful day with your curls!
