$36 (Target) – Great for thick or coarse hair of any curl type. This gel hydrates your curls to prevent frizz with definition and softness that lasts for days. Apply on soaking wet hair for best results. The softness of your curls with this gel is surprising! Note however, that the blueberry fragrance is not for everyone so do try before you buy.
Bioterra Alcohol-free defining gel – 32 oz
$19 (Sally’s) – Recommended for fine to medium hair. This gel was my first favorite when I started my curly hair journey. It works beautifully on wet hair to lock in hydration, define the curls, and add shine. It’s budget-friendly and great for beginners to practice with. It remains on the favorites list for providing light to medium hold without stickiness or flaking. This botanical gel is free of alcohol, parabens, phthalates, mineral oil, microplastics, and dyes.
Jessicurl Spiralicious Styling Gel – 32oz with pump
$56 (Walmart) – A curl community favorite, Spiralicious by Jessicurl is a strong hold gel for medium or thick (coarse) hair. Perfect for frizz control and curl definition, it can be used as a one-and-done, or combined with other products as desired. You can achieve a gel cast with this one, or scrunch out the crunch to soften the curls. This gel is glycerin and protein-free.
