I prefer to stay off the roller coaster of good and bad hair days. Instead, I try to avoid bad hair days altogether with a dependable curly hair care routine.

Bad hair days not only ruin my mood but also make me want to hide, missing out on opportunities and fun with friends and family. Needless to say, I try my best to avoid them.
Along my curly hair journey, I went from daily cleansing to extending days between wash days, hoping to reduce styling time and prevent dryness. However, it didn’t take long for me to discover that skipping a hair wash for more than 3 days was a recipe for bad and uncomfortable hair days ahead.
Better Days Ahead
Here’s why a consistent wash routine is crucial for better hair days:
Water is Happiness: Curly hair loves water and is the key ingredient for soft and hydrated curls. So, you are more than welcome to wash your hair every day if you’d like.
Scalp Health Matters: Just like the rest of our skin, our scalp needs regular cleansing and care. Neglecting it for too long leads to uncomfortable and or unsightly consequences.
Cleanse for Hydration: Third, the lengths of our hair need cleansing to remove all the styling products, including leave-ins, creams, or oils. Without a good cleanse, water will have limited space to soak into the hair for optimum hydration.
Conditioner for Definition: A good conditioner helps your curls absorb water, which is vital for definition and lasting hydration.
Products that Protect: Styling products, especially gels, play a key role in locking in moisture, defining your curls, and preventing frizz.
How I Avoid Bad Hair Days
My solution? I stick to a wash, condition, and style routine every 2-3 days, depending on my schedule. This keeps my curls happy and ensures I’m consistently having great hair days.
And for those times my hair feels a bit drier or frizzier than usual? A clarifying shampoo followed by a deep conditioner does the trick. This “reset” routine makes an immediate difference, bringing my curls back to health every time.
